valletta bars: the best craft beer pubs in valletta
Welcome to the Drink in the Sights Guide to the best best pubs in Valletta, your Valetta craft beer pub crawl.
Despite its diminutive size Valletta, the capital of Malta, is one of the most beautiful cities you'll ever have the pleasure to visit. The whole city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, so it's just a wonderful place to wander around. However after a few hours wandering you're bound to get thirsty, so that's when it's time to look for some Valletta bars. Not surprisingly in a city this small you won't find a huge amount to choose from, but there are a few great places to relax with a pint. Over recent years a few breweries have popped up in Malta so make sure you look out for the likes of Lord Chambray, and Phoenix Raw Beer if you want to sample something local. Right lets get down to the best bars in Valletta.

Valletta Pubs
Beyond any doubt 67 Kapitali is the craft beer utopia of Malta with 11 craft beers on tap and a huge selection of bottles and cans filling up the fridge from the likes of Lord Chambray and other Malta breweries. The staff are proper beer people who will help you choose your beer or six while the décor is wonderfully eclectic and colourful. You'll find wonderfully comfy leather sofas mixed with old patio chairs, plenty of mirrors, and an abundance of beer merchandise. 67 Kapitali is the place to start any Valletta pub crawl. Certainly one of the best pubs in Valletta, and one of the best places for craft beer in Valletta.

Wild Honey
If you want a lovely cosy place to sit with a proper nice craft beer in Valletta look no further then Wild Honey. This tiny craft beer paradise has 8 on tap but really it's the huge selection of bottled beers from around the world available to drink in or take out which makes Wild Honey stand out among the other Valletta pubs and bars. The service is excellent and the barman was happy to talk beer for as long as we wanted. The ceiling, bar and floorboards are all wooden while the walls are covered in proper retro wall paper with vinyl records on show. Wild Honey also put on a lot of cool acoustic guitar sessions and local bands making it a wonderful pub with a great atmosphere. An absolute must on any Valletta pubs crawl.

The Queen Victoria City Pub
God save our gracious queen and all that. I guess given the amount of Brits that have settled in Malta there just had to be a proper British pub here. The Queen Victoria City Pub really is a beauty though with plenty of beers on tap ranging from British classics to the ever present in Malta Cisk, and a few from Lord Chambray, so even though it's a British pub you can have a Maltese pint. The inside is covered in wood from the floor boards to the gorgeous, wonderfully lit bar and ceiling. There's even some bare brick walls and comfy sofas in this large, very British, home away from home. One of the best pubs in Valletta.

Valletta Bars
The Pub
I couldn't really complete a guide to the best pubs in Valletta without including The Pub could I? Sure it's not the most inventively named place in the world, but it's certainly one of the top bars in Valletta. As a Brit The Pub is very much a home away from home in Malta. It's a truly beautiful building with bare brick walls, wooden floorboards, and Cisk, among other, on tap, and just that quint essential proper pub feel. The Pub is probably most famous as the last drinking spot of the late, great Oliver Reed who died of a heart attack in The Pub while filming Gladiator.
If you want a proper pub where you can sit down with a well poured pint you won't find many Valletta bars better than this one. |
Fat Harry's Pub
Fat Harry's Pub is an English/Irish pub serving the best Guinness in Valletta along with the usual Cisk, Kilkenny and good old fashioned English grub like fish and chips. Like so many Valletta bars on this list there's wooden floorboards, wood beam ceilings and a wooden bar in this spacious, but homely pub. There's plenty of beer memorabilia and Fat Harry's Pub has a really good reputation as a place to watch live sports. One of the best bars in Valletta.
