I ordered this pint of Wilde Child Doughp Fiend in The Cardinals Hat in Lincoln, hence the fun cardboard hat next to it. I've had a fair few Wilde Child Beers lately as the Leeds based brewery seems to be popping up everywhere, and their beers often sound like they'll be quite good fun. Doughp Fiend is no exception. Who could resist ordering a 5.5% cookie dough ice-cream porter after all? I certainly couldn't. Doughp Fiend pours close to black with a rather disappointingly small tan head. It looks ok, but it's not the best looking porter you'll see.
Wilde Child Doughp Fiend smells of chocolate, plus some more chocolate, with an extra dollop of chocolate just for good measure. The texture is a little lighter than I expected coming in just above medium bodied, but it's pretty smooth. The taste is fantastically sweet, honestly if you don't have a sweet tooth stay well clear of this, fortunately I have no problem at all with my beer tasting like an expensive dessert. You'll get loads of dark chocolate, the good stuff, not the own cheap brand rubbish, along with some cream and biscuit malts. It's a seriously opulent offering. I really enjoyed Wilde Child Doughp Fiend and if it was just slightly thicker I'd be giving it top marks, but 9.5 out of 10 is more than justified.
