I've been wanting to try Brownie Huntress from Wilde Child Brewing Co ever since sampling their excellent Brownie Hunter beer. I've had a few beers over the years like Plum Porter Grand Reserve from Titanic or any of the imperial Stay Puft beers from Tiny Rebel that are meant as upgrades on an original great, and this is Leeds based Wilde Child's turn. The original Brownie Hunter was 4.9%, this Brownie Huntress version is a much more dangerous 7.4%. Like the original Brownie Huntress pours pretty much jet black with an impressive tan head.
The same chocolate brownie smell remains, as does the pretty thick texture, which I love. What's gone a little bit missing is the fudge taste, presumably this has been replaced by the extra alcohol. You'll still get plenty of chocolate, but really it was the fudge bit of the brownie that made the original unique. There's literally hundreds if not thousands of chocolate stouts out there after all. Sure Wilde Child Brownie Huntress is still a really good, and very tasty beer, but for me it's another example of the sequel not quite living up to the original. I'm going to give Brownie Huntress from Wilde Child a very good 8 out of 10. Sadly given that I gave the original 10 this feels like a little bit of a let down even with that score.
