I've recently started trying to drink more gluten free beers, just so I can rate them for you, so I was very happy to see Voyager from Abbeydale Brewery in Beerheadz. The brewery is based in Sheffield, which isn't far from me, and they've been happily brewing away since 1996, so they're pretty well established. Voyager IPA contains a pretty potent 5.6% alcohol, and pours an almost sun like hazy yellow colour. I don't think anyone will be particularly impressed by the head on Voyager IPA, but other than that it very much has the look of a decent IPA
Voyager IPA has a heavily citrus based aroma with plenty of floral notes coming through. Sadly I don't really enjoy citrus based beers very much so this doesn't bode well for me. One thing that is quite pleasant is the texture which is light and refreshing, sadly though the taste is exactly what I expected. Voyager IPA is yet another in a long line of hoppy citrus based IPA's which are all starting to feel like one never ending, zesty beer. You'll get some grapefruit notes, but really there's nothing out of the ordinary going on here. Sure if you're a big fan of citrus IPA's you'll find this pleasant enough, but I'm quite fed up of them. I was going to give Voyager IPA from Abbeydale 4 out of 10, but as it's gluten free I'll go 4.5.
