Welcome to the Drink in the Sights Stay Puft Marshmallow Imperial Eggnog White Porter Beer Review. And so we enter round 3 of 4 of my Tiny Rebel Stay Puft Marshmallow Christmas beer selection and what could be more Christmassy than eggnog? I feel I should say from the start I've never actually had eggnog, but I gather it's nice and will get you pretty tipsy pretty fast. For those of you that haven't read any of my previous Stay Pust Marshmallow beer reviews Tiny Rebel is a Newport based brewery with a simple mantra 'never just make vanilla ice cream' hence all the weird and wonderful flavours Stay Puft Marshmallow porters now come in. For what it's worth I love the vast majority of them which is why they have a space in my list of best beers ever so I'm really looking forward to this.
As usual the 330ml can is pretty cool although the usual blue colours have been replaced by a much more festive white and the now familiar Stay Puft Marshmallow man in an imperial stormtrooper helmet is now carrying a glass of eggnog. It's a really eye catching can. The 9% alcohol content which matches the other 3 beers in this selection is also pretty eye catching so be careful not to drink this too fast as it may have quite a kick. While I find Tiny Rebel beers a bit hit and miss I always enjoy their artwork, and I have to respect them for trying new things and accepting that some just wont work.
The beer pours a very unfamiliar thick, cloudy yellow. This looks nothing like any other Stay Puft I've tried or indeed any other porter I've seen, porters are dark beers, so this doesn't feel quite right. Similarly the head is tiny compared to all the other Stay Puft Marshmallow beers I've had. This really is a break from the norm. None of this is a criticism though. I like trying new things and I love it when a beer does something different to make itself stand out, and in the world of porters boy does this one stand out. This is either going to be great or a disaster.
The Stay Puft Imperial Eggnog Marshmallow White Porter aroma is strong, and it's super creamy. Not surprisingly this smells nothing like any beer I've ever tasted before. You can certainly smell the alcohol, and the cream, but there's also some fruity aromas in there which I really wasn't expecting. The can says to expect cinnamon and vanilla and while I get the vanilla I can't smell any cinnamon at all, just layers and layers of sweet creamy goodness. This beer really does smell like dessert, it also smells like it contains many, many calories.
The texture is among the thickest I've ever tried to swallow, it really is like drinking full cream milk so I'm not sure I could manage many of these in a session, but then at 9% I guess the texture isn't the only reason I'd struggle. The taste is seriously nice though. I mean it doesn't taste like a beer at all, but it's still really nice. I guess having never tried eggnog the best I can say is that this tastes like a really good White Russian. There's oodles of cream and even a slight fruity, mango aftertaste. It's really hard to rate Stay Puft Imperial Eggnog Marshmallow White Porter from Tiny Rebel Brewery as it is completely different to any beer you'll have tasted before, but it's still excellent. I'm going to give this festive version of Stay Puft a hugely impressive 9 out of 10. It's certainly not your average beer.
