Welcome to the Drink in the Sights Imperial Mint Chocolate Marshmallow Porter from tiny Rebel Beer Review. So this is it, the 4th and last beer from my Tiny Rebel Stay Puft selection. I've been saving Mint Chocolate Marshmallow Porter until last in the hope that it'll be the best, here's hoping. It will have to go some to beat the Eggnog version of Stay Puft though. For anyone who hasn't read any of my Stay Puft reviews before they are nearly all wonderful beers brewed in Newport by Tiny Rebel who are well and truly milking the Stay Puft beer brand for all its worth, and who can blame them? If it works roll with it. Anyway I really want to get on with drinking this so I'll stop talking about the brewery now.
Stay Puft Imperial Mint Chocolate Marshmallow Porter comes in the now very familiar 330ml can featuring the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters wearing an imperial stormtrooper helmet from Star Wars. Basically it's just ticking all the boxes for an 80's child. As with all the other versions in the Christmas selection the beer boasts an impressive 9% alcohol content and so should be handled carefully. Tiny Rebel say they have one rule 'Never just make vanilla ice cream' and the Stay Puft brand lives up to this moto.
The beer pours perfectly. It's as black as black gets with a good milk chocolate brown head which settles down to lacing after a short period of time. As usual it's a good looking beer. The aroma of mint chocolate porter is not surprisingly nearly identical to a box of After Eight Mints. If you've not had After Eight Mints then it smells like mint wrapped in dark chocolate, and what's not to like about that? If you have a sweet tooth I'm pretty sure just from the smell alone you're probably going to enjoy this beer.
The texture is thick, but not as thick as I expected. Meanwhile the taste matches the smell pretty well, although it's not so much After Eight Mints as cheap supermarket own brand knock off chocolate mints, which is a little disappointing. It's still a really nice, sweet, mint chocolate flavour, but I guess I had my hopes built up for something spectacular and instead it's just very good. I'm going to give Tiny Rebel Stay Puft Imperial Mint Chocolate Marshmallow Porter 7.5 out of 10. If you have a sweet tooth this really will be an excellent choice of beer for you.
