I picked up this 330ml bottle of Thornbridge Cocoa Wonderland from Morrison's in Lincoln. Is it just me or do 330ml bottles just feel a bit lacking these days? Anyway, the brewery have been going since 2015 and are probably most famous for producing Jaipur which in all honesty I'm not a big fan of. Lets hope for better from Cocoa Wonderland. Cocoa Wonderland is a 6.8% chocolate porter, so it sounds like it should be good. Sure enough the beer pours about as black as black gets with a reasonable brown head. As beers go this is a bit of a looker.
Cocoa Wonderland also delivers a strong on theme chocolate aroma. Where things go slightly down hill is the medium texture, as for me you really want something much thicker in a chocolate porter. The taste is again just about on brand as there's loads of chocolate, but also a few roasted coffee bean notes. What I would say is that while it is a nice chocolate porter it doesn't taste as special as some some of the more opulent dark chocolate beers I've had in the past. I'm going to give Cocoa Wonderland from Thornbridge a pretty good 7 out of 10, but I do feel they could have done more with it.
