At long last ALDI have introduced a dark beer and it's a vanilla stout no less. While marked as brewed by The Hop Foundry I'm pretty sure that like most ALDI beers it'll be Hogs Back Brewery but don't hold me to that. Stout About It comes in a good looking 440ml black and cream can featuring a couple of vanilla ice creams, so it's all nicely on message. At 5.2% it's about average for a stout, but quite good for a budget purchase. The beer pours jet black with a good frothy, long lasting tan head, while the aroma is not surprisingly mainly vanilla and cream, which I like.
Stout About It has a lovely full creamy texture which compliments the cream and vanilla flavour nicely, I honestly think if you left this in a freezer for a while it'd end up tasting just like a vanilla ice cream. Interestingly though while I found the initial few mouthfuls really good, and I mean really good, just like the ice cream this vanilla stout starts to get a bit dull, and you start wishing there was more going on. I'm going to give Stout About It from The Hop Foundry/ALDI a pretty good 7.5 out of 10 but I'm not sure I'd want to dirnk more than one on a night.
