I'm going to start this by saying I'm slightly confused as I thought Wickwar closed late 2020 due to covid, and I've seen several reports confirming this. However their website doesn't mention closure and beer is clearly still getting produced so who knows what's going on? Anyway I picked up this bottle of Station Porter from Wickwar Brewery in B&M for less than two quid, which is pretty good for a 6.1% beer. Station Porter pours a very dark red that verges on black with a big, foamy, just off white head. It's a pretty good looking porter.
The aroma is pleasant enough with roasted coffee malts and just a little chocolate coming through to add depth. The texture is around about medium bodied, which is a shame as I was expecting something a little thicker from a 6.1% porter. Station Porter actually manages to taste even stronger than it is, which I don't consider a good thing, but despite that the roasted malts, chocolate, and some surprising fruit flavours make for a half decent drink. As porters go this one is decent, but not exceptional. I'm going to give Station Porter from Wickwar a drinkable, and reasonably enjoyable 7 out of 10.
