Appropriately enough I drank my pint of Spa from Buxton Brewery at their brewery taphouse which is one of the best bars in Buxton not that there's 100s to choose from, but it easily makes the top three despite been a bit of a trek from the town centre. I was actually there on a stag do, I mean who wouldn't go to a small spa town on their stag do right? Well turns out it's better than it sounds. Anyway Spa is a citrus based 4.1% American Pale Ale which is, lets be honest, about the most common type of ale you can buy at the moment, but we live in hope that one will stand out above the rest.
Spa pours a slightly hazy yellow with a small, not very long lasting head. The aroma is worryingly citrus heavy with grapefruit coming through too. The beers somewhere between light and medium bodied and tastes exactly how you'd expect this type of beer to taste. There's plenty of citrus, and then there's more citrus. I know it probably sounds like I'm moaning, I knew what I was letting myself in for when I ordered Spa after all, but every now and again you get a citrus based pale ale that does something a bit different, this isn't one of those times though. I can't really be too harsh to Spa from Buxton Brewery because it does exactly what a citrus based APA is meant to do, I just think it's an overly crowded market now though and they all seem to blend into one. 5 out of 10.
