I believe Siren Broken Dream Breakfast Stout is only my second review of the Wokingham based breweries offerings. Siren have been running since 2013 and Broken Dream seems to be the beer you'll see most often from them. I picked my pint up at the excellent Cardinal's Hat which is one of the 14 best pubs in Lincoln. At 6.5% Broken Dream Breakfast Stout is certainly going to wake you up in the morning. Please don't ask me what separates a breakfast stout from a normal stout as I have absolutely no idea. Anyway this one pours as black as night with a decent, and reasonably well lasting tan head.
The beers aroma is an enticing mixture of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and some dark fruits, it smells nice. The texture is pretty thick and creamy, as is the case with most breakfast stouts, and the taste is exceptional. This is a surprisingly sweet stout, with lots of dark chocolate and coffee notes finely balanced with just a small amount of dark fruits. I just love a proper, tasty, full bodied stout and this really hits the spot. I can't think of many better ways to start the day than having a pint of Siren Broken Dream Breakfast Stout, but I'm not sure work would appreciate it. Excellent beer. 9 out of 10.
