I picked up this pint of Solas Irish Stout from River Rye Brewing in Darkey Kelly's which despite the dodgy name is one of the top Dublin bars. It would be rude not to drink one of their own beers while you're in the pub after all. River rye are based in Celbridge near Dublin and htey've been brewing since 2013. Irish Stout, sometimes called Solas Irish Stout pours as black as night with a pretty good creamy head that lasts right to the last sip as most top Irish stouts do. There's a 4.5% alcohol content, so while it's not much higher than the likes of Guinness it is fractionally more alcoholic.
Solas Irish Stout has a nice roasted malts aroma with some chocolate and coffee notes coming through too. The texture is creamy but not too thick. The overriding taste is probably roasted coffee beans, but they aren't too strong which allows the chocolate to play a decent part in the beer. Everything blends together nicely to make an excellent, if slightly predictable Irish stout. I'm going to give Salas Irish Stout from River Rye Brewery 8 out of 10. It's a really good, solid Irish stout.
