I decided to take a quick break from the LIDL beer festival and try one of my other cheap finds Platform 6.1 from Wickwar Brewing Co which cost less than £2 from B&M. The Wessex based brewery have been going since 1860 and you often find their beers in the budget supermarket which is why I have two more to try tucked away in my beer cupboard. The beer comes in a 500ml bottle which gives nothing away except that this is a 6.1% IPA, or as they put it an 'impeccable IPA.' We'll see about that. Platform 6.1 pours a slightly hazy amber with absolutely no head at all.
The beer has a fruity aroma with some grainy malts lurking around in the background. There's a medium and reasonably smooth feel to the beer which makes it slightly heavier than most IPA's but to be honest I like that as long as it's not too hot when drinking. The taste is an interesting mix of fruity hops and caramel malts with the malts just about coming out on top, fortunately I've got a sweet tooth so I'm more than happy with that too. I really enjoyed Platform 6.1 from Wickwar Brewing Co and that's despite not been a huge IPA fan so I'm happy to give it a very good 8 out of 10.
