Welcome to the Drink in the Sights Pilsner Lager from E1 Brew Co Beer Review. I know I don't usually review lagers but it was a nice warm day and I picked this beer up from Home Bargains for less than a pound so thought why not, plus the E1 Brew Co IPA was just about drinkable so maybe this one wont be too bad either. I know it's not exactly high praise. Just for the record E1 Brew Co are based in Shoreditch, London and are relatively new to the brewery scene and yes all their beers are as inventively named as Pilsner Lager but at least you know what you're getting.
Pilsner Lager from E1 Brew Co comes in the now familiar bland 440ml can and contains an equally bland 4% alcohol. The beer is described as 'well balanced and lightly hopped lager with a clean crisp, refreshing taste.' Which all makes it sound like just about every other lager on the market, but cheaper. Pilsner Lager has a clear straw yellow body and no head at all, this really is one of the least lively lagers I've ever seen, you barely have to even tilt the glass when pouring.
Pilsner Lager has the usual lager aroma with a bit of lemon and maybe a little lime thrown in for good measure. I think when I reviewed their IPA I said it should be called either generic or bland IPA and so far this is looking very much like a generic, bland lager, but then I could say that about nearly any lager except maybe Birra Moretti which I actually quite like. Fortunately the Pilsner Lager from E1 Brew Co is at least fairly crisp and refreshing as promised, so from that point of view it's not a bad alternative to the likes of Carlsberg.
What can I really say about Pilsner Lager from E1 Brew Co except that it meets all the criteria to be a pilsner but doesn't really do much else. It's not a beer that I particularly dislike and for a budget offering it'll get you through a sunny Sunday afternoon, but despite the slight dash of lemon in the taste you wont really notice anything different to the many, many generic lagers out there which I guess given the price of this one that could almost be seen as a compliment. I'm going to give Pilsner Lager from E1 Brew Co a decent 7 out of 10. It's exactly what it says it is nothing more and nothing less.
