While in Leicester I couldn't not have a few Black Country Ales and here we have Pig on the Wall. I actually had this beer in the excellent Kings Head in Leicester. The brewery is based near Dudley so not too far away, and they've been brewing beers for close to 200 years now. Pig on the Wall is described as a 4.3% chestnut brown mild and the look certainly matches that description, and the fairly small tan head lasts surprisingly well given the size. The beers aroma is surprisingly fruity and sweet with just a few chocolate notes coming through.
Pig on the Wall has a smooth, medium texture which is pleasant enough, while the taste is an interesting, not unpleasant mix of fruity hops, a decent level of malts, and a slightly chocolate finish. It's certainly a more complex beer than it looks. Everything comes together reasonably nicely, but nothing comes through enough to make you think there's anything outstanding going on sadly. Pig on the Wall from Black Country Ales is a very good solid light mild beer so it gets a good solid 7 out of 10.
