Orkney Brewery Dark Island is one of the easiest beers to find in Scotland and in this case I had it in Cloisters in Edinburgh, which is a lovely bar that used to be a church cloister. Not surprisingly Orkney Brewery is on the Orkney Islands, other than that I don't know much about them. Orkney Brewery Dark Island is a 4.6% dark ale which pours pretty much completely black with a reasonable tan head. You'll get a nice roasted malts aroma with some dark chocolate mixed in creating a pleasant, but fairly standard smell.
Orkney Brewery Dark Island has a creamy, but light to moderate body texture, which is somewhat lighter than I was expecting. The taste is pretty good though with the chocolate notes coming through nicely, with just a slight smoky finish rounding it off pretty well. This is a pretty impressive dark ale and well worth a solid 8 out of 10.
