Welcome to the Drink in the Sights SNIPA from Original Stormtrooper Beer Review. So here's the second Original Stormtrooper's beer I found in B&M. S.N.I.P.A stands for Situation Normal Indian Pale Ale, maybe situation normal has some Star Wars connotation but while I've seen all the films I don't remember it as an iconic line. It's certainly no 'Luke I am your father' or 'use the force' or anything like that so it's a slightly odd name. I assume that like Galactic Pale Ale this is brewed by St Peter's Brewery, but I can't promise that. Anyway as an 80's child I was naturally drawn to these beers when I saw them for £1 each in B&M. Sadly Galactic Pale Ale tasted like a cheap beer so I'm hoping SNIPA proves a little more stellar.
Naturally the 330ml can looks quite cool with the stormtrooper helmet on the front and various slogans about joining the imperial army, it's quite good fun, so that's a good start. There's a 4.4% alcohol content which is slightly less fun, but for a quid you can't expect a massive alcohol content. The beer pours a very clear, light straw colour with an incredibly lively head so be careful when pouring. SNIPA certainly looks the part as an IPA so aesthetically at least this beer seems decent.
And then it goes downhill. The only beer I've ever smelt like this was Tiny Rebel's Glazed Ham Marshmallow Imperial Porter, but that was meant to smell of meat, I'm not sure this one is. Oddly though both feature a stormtrooper helmet on the front, coincidence? Almost certainly. SNIPA truly has a vile stench to it. I would best describe it as corned beef that has been left out in the sun for far too long. I actually found myself checking to see if it was out of date, and it wasn't, there's still another year left on the best before. I really hope this tastes better than it smells.
No it doesn't. You really have to make sure you don't breath while sipping this beer as the smell really will make you gag, and if the smell doesn't the taste certainly will. Again it's like rotting meat, it's just horrible. Maybe it had gone off, but it looked fine when pouring, and the can was sealed, but I can't believe anyone would make a beer that tastes like this. I've never struggled so much to finish a 330ml can. I can only give Original Stormtrooper S.N.I.P.A from St Peter's Brewery 0.5 out of 10, and that's only for the cool can. This is very much the Ja Ja Binks of the beer world and I genuinely think it's the single worst beer I have ever drank.
