I picked up Moonwake Beer Co Milk Stout on a tasting session in Beerheadz. I don't know a huge amount about the brewery but they're based in Edinburgh, which is where I'll be in a weeks time so I may try to find out a little more. Unfortunately they are in the Leith bit of Edinburgh, which is a bit out the way so I may not get to visit. Anyway Moonwake Beer Co Milk Stout contains 4.5% alcohol, and pours just off black, with no head at all. You'll get a reasonably pleasant dark chocolate aroma along with some roasted malts, it smells better than it looks anyway.
Moonwake Beer Co Milk Stout has a medium to full body and has a smoothness I've come to associate with milk stouts. In terms of taste you're going to find the expected chocolate, a little lactose, and maybe a slightly nutty after taste. I have to rely on my friends for the last bit as I have a nut allergy so can't honestly tell you what a nut tastes like anymore. Moonwake Beer Co Milk Stout is a decent beer that most dark ale drinkers will sip at quite happily without really finding anything spectacular. Nice and reliable 7 out of 10.
