It's not often you find a 10% beer for less than three quid, especially one that comes in a 440ml can. I found Love Lane Imperial Stout in the latest LIDL beer festival and drank it while watching England play Albania. I find a strong beer helps when watching England. Love Lane are based in Liverpool and have been going since 2017. They always seem to have a large showing at LIDL beer festivals, but this is by far their strongest beer so far. Love Lane Imperial Stout pours jet black with a foamy tan head, which sadly dissipates quite quickly. It's a shame so few beers seem to keep a good head these days.
Love Lane Imperial Stout has a strong chocolate aroma that rather masks the large amount of alcohol backing it up. The texture is that of a proper imperial stout. It's rich, full and creamy, it's just about perfect to be fair. Fortunately the taste isn't a let down either. Some, if not most, double digit beers really taste of nothing but alcohol, however Love Lane have done a good job of making their Imperial Stout very drinkable. I'd actually say it tastes more like a good 6% beer. The main reason for this is the very nice chocolate notes and roasted malts. I can honestly say in terms of sheer value for money Love Lane Imperial Stout is one of the best beers you could buy. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's pretty damn good especially for the price. 8.5 out of 10.
