I picked up this pint of Hammer Head Stout from Milestone in the excellent Draughtsman pub at Doncaster station, it really is one of the best Doncaster pubs. Milestone are based near Newark so this pretty much counts as a local beer. The brewery have been pretty successful since they started work in 2004 winning a few awards on the way. Hammer Head Stout contains a not to be sniffed at 5.2% alcohol and pours exactly how you'd like a stout to pour. It's jet black with a nice thick white head that lasts just about until you get to the bottom of the pint. It really is a bit of a looker.
The beers aroma is quite malty with a good level of chocolate to appease the sweet toothed among us. I particularly enjoyed the thick creamy texture, really this is a seriously smooth beer and you don't get that often enough anymore outside of expensive nitro offerings. Similarly the taste is really quite good with plenty of chocolate malts and just a little bit of coffee. I'm not going to pretend Hammer Head Stout does anything particularly new but everything it does it does well. I'm going to give Hammer Head Stout from Milestone Brewery a very good 8 out of 10.
