I found Guerrilla Stout from Blue Monkey in The Organ Grinder bar in Newark which wasn't a surprise as it's a Blue Monkey Pub. The brewery is based in Nottingham about 30 minutes away from Newark so it's a proper local beer. They've been going since 2010 and at one point used certified all their bottled beer as gluten free but sadly that's now stopped. Along with a decent beer selection they also have their own gin and rum so they're trying multiple markets. Interestingly (or not) Guerrilla is the only Blue Monkey beer where the Guerrilla on the label is black not blue.
Guerrilla contains a fairly healthy 4.9% alcohol content and pours a beautiful jet black with a great tan head that lasts really well. It's a really good looking stout. The aroma is also pretty enticing with smoky roasted malts complimented by liquorice and chocolate notes. The texture is smooth, rich, and full bodied as a good stout should be and the taste does a very good job matching the smell. There's everything you'd want in a good proper old fashioned pint of stout here. I'm going to give Guerrilla from Blue Monkey a very good 8 out of 10 it's a really good stout but it probably doesn't do enough to make itself truly unique enough to warrant a bigger score.
