Festbier periodically turns up in LIDL so I thought why not give it a go, it's pretty cheap after all. I honestly have no idea who the actual brewery is so probably best I don't start randomly guessing. Anyway the beer pours a bit darker than I was expecting, it's almost golden so that's a surprise. Unlike proper German fest beers the initially quite substantial head doesn't last long at all which is a shame. Meanwhile the aroma is quite malty with some reasonably pleasant floral notes and some citrus thrown in for good measure. At 5.5% LIDL have put a decent amount of alcohol in here too.
As you'd expect the texture is light, and actually more refreshing than you'd think given the colour. There's quite a good biscuit malt taste in there along with lighter floral hops giving Festbier a bit more flavour than I was really expecting. You'd have to say that for the price this is a bargain. Sure it's not what you'd get in a really good Munich beer hall, but it's up there with the stuff they sell for four times the price in Bierkellers up and down the UK. I'm going to give Festbier from LIDL 7.5 out of 10, it genuinely tastes half decent and for the price you can't ask for much more.
