I couldn't possible not drink Exale Krankie Iron Brew Sour when I saw it on the beer list in Beerheadz, I mean really who would make an Irn Bru beer? Well apparently the answer is London based brewery Exale. It's a weird one isn't it? I don't usually like sour beers, and I'm not even a huge fan of Irn Bru, but when you see something this weird you kinda have to try it don't you? I also assumed the brewery would be in Scotland when I saw the beers name, but nope it's a southern brew. Anyway Exale Krankie Iron Brew Sour looks a lot like Irn Bru, but maybe a little darker. I have to say if you've never drank Irn Bru I'm afraid a lot of this review will refer to it. Sorry about that.
The Exale Krankie Iron Brew Sour aroma is pretty much spot on, it's sweet, lots of sugar, and almost certain to rot your teeth. The texture is quite thick, and pretty carbonated. I can't really fault the taste too much, as it does taste more or less like Irn Bru so it's important to remember you are drinking a 4.2% beer, not a soft drink. I would say it's not exactly the same as Irn Bru, more somewhere between that and Tizer. Anyway how do you rate a beer that's a type you know you don't like, but wanted to try anyway? I guess all I can say is it tastes much better than most sours, because it tastes nothing like a sour beer. Does it do what it promised and mimic Irn Bru? Yes it does, so I have to give it a good score of 7.5 out of 10.
