Nene Valley Brewery are based just down the road from Peterborough so I was delighted to find their Egyptian Cream in Charters bar, which is one of the best Peterborough bars. The brewery have been going since 2012 and since 2015 all of their beers have been gluten free, which is great news for celiacs everywhere. I'm just going to leave my usual warning here to check before drinking as things can change and I don't want you to get ill!! Egyptian Cream from Nene Valley Brewery is a 4.5% milk stout so it's a good session beer for those like me who enjoy the darker side of beer drinking.
Egyptian Cream pours as black as you'd expect with a pretty impressive creamy tan head which lasts really well, it's a good looking pint. The texture is thick and smooth, a little like a pint of Guinness, and to be honest initially the taste wasn't a million miles off Guinness Draught either. Fortunately though as the beer warmed up more chocolate notes started to come through along with a slightly sweet lactose flavour. All in all Egyptian Cream from Nene Valley Brewery is a good solid creamy milk stout with a bit of extra sweetness, which I quite enjoyed. I think anyone who enjoys dark beers will find this pleasant enough so I'll give Egyptian Cream 6.5 out of 10.
