While in Glasgow it would have been exceptionally rude of me not to visit the Drygate Brewery especially given the amount of their beers I've tried in various LIDL beer festivals. The brewery is really close to the centre, and is actually next to the much bigger, but much less appealing Tennants brewery. Drygate Brewing Orinoco is a 6% milk stout which now also comes in a peanut butter version, but I thought I'd stick to the original for now. I have to say that Drygate Brewery was one of the best bars in Glasgow city centre so make sure you visit if you're in the city.
Drygate Brewing Orinoco pours just off black with a thin lacing head. The beers aroma is pleasant enough with plenty of chocolate notes coming through as well as some coffee, and the expected lactose notes. The beers texture is surprisingly light for a milk stout coming in just above medium bodied, which isn't really heavy enough. The taste is pleasant enough though with a nice mix of chocolate and vanilla flavours, like two thirds of a Neapolitan ice-cream. There's a few vague coffee notes too, but really it's the chocolate driving the show. Drygate Brewing Orinoco is a decent milk stout, it could just do with a slightly thicker body, and maybe a slightly more unique taste. Can't complain though 7 out of 10.
