Donkeystone Madagaska Vanilla Stout arrived as part of the LIDL beer festival and I drank it while England hammered Albania in November. I had never heard of the Saddleworth brewery before, or Saddleworth for that matter, but apparently it's in Oldham. The brewery have only been going since 2019, so they're very much new kids on the block, and what better way to get your name out there than produce a beer for the LIDL beer festival. Donkeystone Madagaska Vanilla Stout contains 5% alcohol and pours close to black with no head that's worth talking about.
Donkeystone Madagaska Vanilla Stout has an unsurprising vanilla aroma with a bit of chocolate backing it up. Where the beer starts to let itself down a bit is the body texture which is somewhere between light and medium, which really isn't enough for a stout in my opinion. The taste is pretty good though with the vanilla and chocolate coming through clearly enough with just a little coffee hiding away behind them. While the taste is nice it could have been more pronounced. It's an odd one because if they just upped the taste a little and gave Donkeystone Madagaska Vanilla Stout a decent body it'd be a great beer, instead it's just a good one. 7.5 out of 10.
