Given that Pheasantry Brewery is on the border between Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire it's probably appropriate I found this pint at The Castle Barge in Newark on Trent. As it's a brewery which is fairly local to me this isn't the first of their beers I've reviewed and I can tell you their Lincoln Tank Ale is a pretty nice pint, but anyway they've been brewing for about 10 years and have a decent selection of ales. While Dark Ale isn't particularly inventively named I can tell you it does what it says on the can and pours a reasonably dark brown with a pretty nice white head.
Dark Ale from Pheasantry has a nice enough light chocolate malty aroma and at 4.2% it probably works best as a mid session beer for a dark beer drinker. The texture is that of a light porter. It's certainly not a bad beer and the taste very much matches the smell with maybe a little coffee thrown in, but it feels a bit too light to be considered a really good dark beer and the taste while pleasant isn't going to blow anyone away. All in all Dark Ale from Pheasantry Brewery is a good solid 7 out of 10 beer which provides a nice sensible option in a land of ever increasing dark beer alcohol percentages.
