Welcome to the Drink in the Sights Cubanistro Rum Flavoured Beer Review. I picked this 500ml can up from Home Bargains, mainly because I fancied something a bit different, but also at least partly because of the cool day of the dead motif, and the 5.9% alcohol at such as cheap price. I've previously had a few rum stouts and loved them so I was certainly curious to see how a rum beer (presumably lager) would go down. Cubanistro Rum Flavoured Beer pours a clear, light gold with a reasonable foamy white head. It looks really fizzy, so yea, it's a lager. The beers aroma is quite light, with a few fruity notes, mainly citrus, thrown in to the mix. You do get a small rum hit coming through later. Not surprisingly the mouth feel is also very light, but far too fizzy for my liking, and it doesn't ever settle down.
Oddly the Cubanistro Rum Flavoured Beer taste is almost more like a cider than a beer, and not a very good one at that. It all feels a bit artificial. You'll get some lime notes, some lemon, and some apple, but you won't enjoy them very much. There's also a vague rum taste, but it's not clear, and certaily doesn't feel like there's any actual rum in there. What I would say is that it hides the pretty high alcohol quite well, but given that it's meant to be a rum beer I'm not sure that's a good thing. The good news is I did manage to drink the whole thing, but I won't be on the look out for more Cubanistro Rum Flavoured Beer. 2 out of 10.
