I always feel bad that I didn't put Beerheadz on my list of best pubs in Nottingham but it's very small and the list already had 17 bars on it. However it's right next to the station so if you're ever just waiting for a train there give it a go. Anyway Beerheadz is where I found Castle Rock Oatmeal Stout. Castle Rock are a proper local Nottingham brewery. Oatmeal Stout comes in a 440 ml black and white can and contains 4% alcohol. The beer pours just off jet black with a disappointing lack of head.
Castle Rock Oatmeal Stout has a burnt malts and coffee aroma and thinner than expected body. I was expecting something quite filling but it's medium bodied at best. Despite this the texture is reasonably smooth, and the taste is decent. You'll certainly get some coffee notes and maybe a few dried fruits just keeping it interesting. Castle Rock Oatmeal Stout isn't a spectacular beer, but it's also really not a bad one. 7 out of 10.
