Burnt Mill Brewery Beyond the Firs is another offering I found in Beerheadz in Lincoln. To be honest I know pretty much nothing about Burnt Mill Brewery other than they are based in Ipswich, which is somewhere I've never visited. I'm guessing as their website doesn't really say much about the brewery that they're pretty new, and that's why I've not had chance to sample their offerings before. Burnt Mill's Beyond the Firs is a 4.8% gluten free pale ale that pours a very pale, almost yellow amber. As always if you're reading this and you're a celiac please double check before ordering as brewing methods do change over time.
Beyond the Firs has a pretty rubbish head, that instantly becomes lacing, and then disappears pretty much straight after. Really it almost looks like a flat lager. You'll get loads of hoppy fruit scents from Beyond the Firs along with a pretty light body. Not for the first time I think I'm probably drinking this beer too late in the year. It certainly feels more like a summer drink. If I'm honest the taste is pretty boring. You'll get some fruit tastes among the many hops, but none of them stand out a great deal. Sure Burnt Mill Beyond the Firs is a decent refreshing drink, but so's water. You won't really taste of anything overly interesting, it's just a very hoppy, slightly fruity pale ale, so the best thing going for it really is that it's gluten free. I'm not saying Burnt Mill Beyond the Firs is a bad beer, it's just seriously dull, and I can't give a dull beer more than 5 out of 10.
