What beer lover could resist reviewing a bubble gum pale ale? It sounds unique, it could be fun, and it was nice and cheap in the LIDL beer festival. Bubble Trouble from Boss Brewing in Swansea feels like something different. Just incase you're wondering where you've heard of Boss Brewing before they're the ones Hugo Boss tried to stop using their name which caused comedian Joe Lycett to briefly change his name to Hugo Boss. Anyway it all made headline news and the company is still going strong. I have to say I love Boss Brewing's style where everything on their cans and website look like a really cool comic book. In this case we have a Harley Quinn esque figure blowing some chewing gum. It looks ace. I also like that this beer is gluten free so it gets an automatic 0.5 out of 10 extra when I do my scoring later.
Bubble Trouble comes in a 440ml can, which is one of the coolest I've seen, and contains a very average 4.5% alcohol. The beer pours a slightly hazy amber with a white head which lasts really well, it's a good looking beer. The aroma is just candy/chewing gum which is impressive as I've never smelt a beer like this. And even better the flavour matches. This really is a bubble gum beer. It's sweet, it's light, it's full of candy flavours, and if you like bubble gum you'll love this. Personally I can take or leave bubble gum, but I do appreciate it when a beer A does something different, and this certainly does, and B does what it says on the can, and this certainly does. Drinking Bubble Trouble from Boss Brewing was an entirely pleasant, and unique experience. I'm going to give this 8.5 out of 10 as even if you don't overly like bubble gum you've got to appreciate that this is something a bit different.
