It's June the sun is out and it's really starting to feel like we're coming out of lockdown so it's time to get to the pub. Brownie Hunter is a Chocolate Fudge Brownie Stout I picked up at Cardinal's Hat in Lincoln. This is the original of what I gather is a growing number of Brownie Hunter beers from the 11 year old Leeds based brewery with a large selection of craft beers. I really am looking forward to this one as who doesn't love chocolate fudge brownies? And who doesn't love stouts? It just seems like it could be a match made in heaven, and I'm not sure anyone has ever described Leeds as heaven before.
I had this beer on tap but if you do go looking for it you'll find Brownie Hunter in a 440ml black can covered in chocolate and stars. The beer contains a fairly low these days 4.9% alcohol and pours a gorgeous black with a light but substantial tan head. I can assure you that if the looks don't lure you in the aroma certainly will. You can tell straight away this is a proper chocolate based beer as the aroma is massive. It's not just chocolate though you'll also get some of the promised caramel fudge, and maybe just a little coffee, or at least roasted malts. This has all the hallmarks of a proper dessert beer.
Brownie Hunter looks like a good stout, smells like a good stout and thankfully it tastes like a great stout. The texture is almost nitro beer smooth, which I love, and the taste delivers everything the description of a chocolate Fudge Brownie Stout promises. There's just oodles of chocolate and fudge in here and I assume given the texture there's a fair chunk of lactose thrown in too. If you're looking for a proper chocolatey beer as a treat look no further. Even the person I was out with who's a light fruity beer drinker loved this so I'm going to give Brownie Hunter from Wilde Child a very impressive, almost perfect 9.5 out of 10. I'm not really sure what more they could have done to make it a 10 out of 10 but I can tell you they were close.
