Welcome to the Drink in the Sights Brewdog Jet Black Heart Nitro Beer Review. I picked this can up from Morrison's for £3 which is twice as much as I normally pay for a beer at Morrison's so I'm hoping for great things. I'm also hoping for great things because the original Jet Black Heart from the multi award winning Scottish brewers is one of my all time favourite beers so I really hope the nitro version doesn't let me down. Just for the record a nitro beer has extra nitrogen and is meant to make the beer smoother, and I do like a good smooth beer.
Jet Black Heart Nitro comes in a pretty cool 402ml silver and purple can which offers the chance to 'dive into the dark abyss.' As a dark beer drinker with a vaguely goth outlook on life I'm all for this as a message. I'm also all for the extra 1.3% alcohol content Jet Black Heart Nitro has over the original, giving it a nice round 6%. Clearly it's not just nitrogen Brewdog have added to spice things up a little, this really looks like it could be a serious beer. The can also points out that this is a vanilla oatmeal milk stout, and for me that's ticking a lot of the best boxes.
Brewdog Jet Black Heart Nitro pours absolutely perfectly. The body is jet black as promised while the full just off white creamy head just lasts forever, which I love. Regardless of anything else this is one of the best looking beers I've ever seen. The aroma is rich dark chocolate, mixed with vanilla and roasted malts, at this point my mouth is already watering. Surely something that looks and smells this great is going to be spectacular, if not it's going to be hugely disappointing now.
There's no disappointment. The texture is medium to full bodied but seriously creamy. You can almost feel the glorious nitrogen texture just roll down your throat, and it doesn't seem to matter how much you drink the head remains intact throughout. The taste genuinely is spectacular. There's the promised chocolate and vanilla flavours perfectly mixed with roasted malts and just a hint of coffee. I actually think Brewdog have created a sequel that surpasses the original and we all know how rare that is. I really do have to give Jet Black Heart Nitro from Brewdog 10 out of 10. This might actually be my all time favourite beer.
