I found Beartown Creme Bearlee in The Crafty Crow, which is one of the best bars in Nottingham. Who could resist a creme brulee style beer after all? Beartown Brewery is based in Congleton, where's that you ask? So did I, and Google told me it's near Stoke on Trent, so now we all know. The brewery has been going since 1995 but I'm pretty sure this is my first taste of their beers. Creme Bearlee is a 4.8% milk stout, so it sounds pretty appealing. The beer pours pretty close to black with a small, but quite well lasting tan head. It looks ok, not spectacular, but I've seen much worse.
Beartown Creme Bearlee has a chocolate and cream aroma which matches the name quite well. The beers texture is just above medium, and the taste is fantastic. There's plenty of chocolate in here expertly mixed with vanilla and some cream. I've had a lot of for want of a better description dessert beers over the years with a mixture of results, but this is probably one of the very best. I like a good opulent beer from time to time and Creme Bearlee delivers that. I also like it when a beer actually tastes like it's meant to, and this definitely tastes of creme brulee. Beartown Creme Bearlee really is a top class beer that deserves a top class score. 10 out of 10.
