Barney's Beer Not Milk Stout is a 5.9% vegan version of the classic milk stout I picked up in Jeramiah's Taproom, which is one of the top Edinburgh pubs. The brewery is based just outside the city centre and I've only had one of their beers before so it was high time I gave them another go. Barney's Beer Not Milk Stout pours jet black with a decent just off white head. While the beer says it doesn't contain milk to certainly has a lactose aroma along with some nice coffee notes. The beers body is close to to full, and it's nice and smooth making it a good winter option.
Barney's Beer Not Milk Stout certainly tastes milky, so I'm curious about how they've made it. The only thing that comes through more than the milk is the coffee making it taste almost like a Tiramisu. As dessert beers go this is a genuinely nice one, and certainly a big step up from their awful Marshmallow Stout. I can honestly say I enjoyed Barney's Beer Not Milk Stout much more than I thought I would, it's a really nice coffee based stout and deserves a very nice 8 out of 10.
