This is my second review of an Amundsen beer, and in this case we have Amundsen's Wired. Other than knowing that the brewery is based in Oslo, Norway and they seem to really like brewing strong beers I have very little else to tell you about Amundsen, so lets just talk about Wired. Amundsen Wired is an 11.5% white imperial salted caramel pastry stout. I guess the name is appropriate as at 11.5% it really should get you wired. Despite the hefty percentage Wired comes in a 440ml can so I'd suggest drinking it carefully.
Amundsen Wired pours a red bitter colour with no head at all. The aroma is surprisingly fruity for a caramel beer, but don't worry there's certainly some caramel lurking in there. The feel is somewhere between medium and full bodied while the taste is an odd mix of caramel and some sort of dried fruit like raisins or prunes. I'm not sure they'd usually mix together particularly well but in this case it kinda works. I have to say you can really taste the alcohol too, but not enough to put you off. I'm going to give Amundsen Wired 7 out of 10. It's nice, but compared to their chocolate chip imperial stout it doesn't really come close to been as good.
