I had this 440ml can of Amundsen Brewery Tall Stack in Beerheadz in Lincoln. The brewery is based in Oslo, Norway but I'm starting to spot their beers more and more in the UK, and I actually have another one to review in the next day or two. They've been going for over a decade now so clearly they're having some success. Amundsen Brewery Tall Stack is a 11.5% choc chip, maple syrup, pancake imperial stout, so it's not a drink to be taken lightly, and it certainly sounds like there's a lot going on inside the very colourful can.
Amundsen Brewery Tall Stack pours about as black as you're going to get from any beer with virtually no head or lacing. You can really smell the alcohol in here, in fact it actually smells more like a good port than a beer, although you'll get a few chocolate notes too. The body is as thick as you'd expect from an imperial stout while the taste is mind blowing. It's partly mind blowing because it's amazing, and partly because it seems to have little or nothing to do with the description. Maybe, just maybe there's a little chocolate in there, but honestly if you told me to close my eyes and drink a bit I'd think it was a sherry, or maybe even a port. You'll get some dried fruit tastes and plenty of alcohol. I wouldn't flinch if you told me it was a 20% beer in all honesty. Now that may sound like it's too much, but somehow it's still really tasty, I mean seriously tasty, if it wasn't for the percentage I could drink Amundsen Brewery Tall Stack all night long. I feel like I should mark it down because it doesn't really do what it says on the can, but when it tastes this good who cares? 10 out of 10.
